Community Outreach
A note from Laura:
My mission in life is "service"- and I feel grateful that the staff within our practice believes strongly in this mission as well. I am inspired by their compassion and engagement with the community and those in need, from local to national organizations. We are acutely aware that the world is full of suffering, and our goal is to alleviate that suffering in any way we can, from our corner of the world.
We frequently give back to the local homeless shelters, food banks, school sports teams, animal shelters, and the Red Cross for life saving blood donations and disaster relief. We have adopted a shelf with the Southbury Food Bank- where we are in charge of collecting pasta sauce for local families. We also have a donation box set up for the Middlebury food bank in our Middlebury location. Please do reach out to our office to inquire about dropping off donations or contributing in any way that you are able and that inspires you.
I have created a scholarship program in our practice called "The Stephen project" in honor of my dad who sadly passed away in 2022. The loss of him is an indescribable grief, and my goal is to channel the love for him into each person I meet, and help as many people as I can.
With that, the Stephen project was created- which is a program that a client can ask to be a part of if they do not have insurance, or cannot afford their copays, but have a serious medical condition such as kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, or a condition that is difficult to treat and manage. Several times a year, we open up space for a client to engage in therapy, medication management, and reiki for 3 months at no charge to them. As someone who first hand witnessed the lack of resources for someone with kidney disease and complex medical conditions, I hope to give back in a way that makes a difference in the medical field.
In addition to giving back, we believe in educating the community on the importance of caring for your mental and physical health (and how both can influence one another!). If you are in need of psychoeducation for your workplace, classroom, or organization, we are happy to provide this support in the hope of inspiring others and breaking through the stigma of mental health concerns, while empowering people to seek out resources so they can take care of their mind and body.
As always, please let us know how we can help in any way. We are here to do our part in making the world a more compassionate place.
